Greetings! It’s been a long, long time since
you’ve heard from me! It’s been many months since the last Karma
Factory show, but things are about to change. I write to you today a very
excited man, because a new chapter for myself and my friends is about to
begin. But first, I’ll bring ya up to speed on what’s been
happening… Towards the spring of 2000, the Karma Factory found
itself at a crossroads. We
were becoming frustrated with the “scene” catering much more toward
cover bands, with little or no avenues for original music to be presented. Mike, our guitar player and President of Female Fan
Relations, decided to leave us and go full time with his cover band,
Groove Pocket. At that time, John (our drummer), Matt (bass) and I decided
to have some fun and formed a little throw together cover band, the Love
Brokers. Meanwhile I was busy
in the studio writing and demoing songs, with help from the guys.
Even John got into doing some songwriting as you will probably hear
sometime soon. My old friend and fellow Karma Factory founder Ken
(acoustic and vocals) would stop by and demo songs as well. Life was good,
though we really didn’t have an original band together. A few months later, in early September, I got an
email from a friend from the past, Gabrielle Hewson, who used to manage
one of the bands I worked with out in LA, the Qkumbrz.
She’d been one of my biggest supporters of my original music back
in LA and, when I told her what I’d been up to, asked me to send her my
latest stuff. Turns out —
gasp — she loved it all, phoned me back, and we decided to form a
partnership. So now the music
officially has management. After much advice seeking from friends and colleagues
in the industry, we felt we should promote the project as a
singer-songwriter, rather than using the band scenario, and market the
music under Scott Lippincott. This was especially smart being that the
Karma Factory was kinda defunct, but all the original players were still
in the picture. So after a couple of inter-coastal visits, and multiple
photo shoots, AIM management meetings, strategy sessions and various music
promotion stuff, the next chapter is born… Scottlippincott.com is your gateway to all of our
souls, ideas, desires, and inspiration.
The new music continues the Karma Factory tradition of songwriting,
harmony, and fun, while going in some exciting new directions. We’ve put some MP3 files up there for you to download,
listen to, share, copy, do whatever! We’re really trying to make the
site as interactive as we can, to get the most feedback from our fans and
friends. Hence, the section
where you can vote for the songs you like; YOU will actually be a part of
deciding what goes onto the next CD… Gabrielle is busy out in California, working on
prospects for labels, producers, soundtracks, all kinds of cool stuff.
Meanwhile, John, Ken, Matt and I still get together to jam and make
demos that you’ll be able to hear on the website first. There is a LOT
of new music coming from this project, and my only hope is that you enjoy
it as much as I enjoy making it. Thanks for all of your support over the years! -Scott |
