Initially,
I read the lyrics on the page and was prepared for
a sappy song that would play it safe. The kind of
song that doesn't impress or make you sick...it
just plays. I got that impression from the site
itself.
On his site are the lyrics, which seemed silly
while reading them. Boy, was I wrong. With the
instrumentation, build and emotions they become
something quite right for this song. I have to
hand it to Scott for writing lyrics that worked
really well. After five listens I found myself
wondering what the hell I was smoking just a half
hour earlier. These lyrics that didn't impress me
were now ingrained in my head and I was singing
along. Enough about my error in judgment, lets
move on to the rest of the song.
The guitar work is subtle and perfect. The
underlying guitar throughout the song is just
outstanding. The guitar becomes a lighthouse as
the song picks up and adds new sound, however, you
can always come back to that guitar. It's, somehow
comforting. The music itself is toe tapping and
just plain feels good.
The piece is played spot on. I can't think of
anything I wish was different in this song. The
production is quite good. The vocal harmonies are
outstanding, reminds me of The Rembrandts.
Overall, this song works on a number of levels. I
have to hand it to the artist; he really impressed
me and proved me wrong.
